YOUNG STUDENTS’ SPONSORSHIP SCHEME

Please read the following guidelines carefully before downloading the Application Form

Introduction

The Young Students’ Sponsorship Scheme is a simple process of “Linking” the prospective donor and recipient. The donor can choose to sponsor one or more of the following:
  • An Orphan Student or A Group of Orphan Students
  • A Student or A Group of Student from the Rural Areas of Pakistan
  • A Student with Disability or A Group of Students with Disability
  • A Student or A Group of Student from the Religious Minorities
  • A Student or A Group of Student from Terrorism Effected Family or Families

AGHE UNDERSTANDING OF

A Student:
A student who enrolled in Intermediate Class (Only first year) in any public college in Islamabad, and studying science subjects.
An Orphan Student
An Orphan is a child who has lost either his/her father or both parents. If the father (earning hand) is alive he/she will not be considered an orphan.
A Student from Rural Area
A student who is permanent resident of the rural areas of Pakistan and has valid domicile of the area that he/she claimed to be resident of.
A Student from the Religious Minorities
A student belonging to the religious minorities of Pakistan
A Student belonging to the Family, affected by Terrorism
A student belonging to an affected family by terrorism in Pakistan and he/she has lost his/her parent (one or both) or guardian or the earning hand.
A Student with disability
A student may qualify for this scheme as a student with disability if he/she has had any physical impairment

CRITERIA FOR SPONSORSHIP

What follows is a list of pre-requisites for a student on the scheme:
  • The student must meet the definition understood by AGHE Pakistan.
  • Compulsory attendance at the college, this includes only the government colleges located in Islamabad territory Pakistan.
  • Proof of the student’s family income (a certificate by Lumburdar of the area duly verified by the college principal).
  • There is no restriction on the number of students sponsored per family.
  • Priority will be given to cases where both parents are deceased.
  • Priority will be given if the student attends a college in rural areas of Islamabad and is orphan.
  • All sections of the Application Forms must be completed with as much detail as possible.
  • All forms must be completed in English and typed if possible. Otherwise it must be completed in clear and legible handwriting.
  • Photographs must not be stapled to the Form in order to avoid damage, instead be placed in small envelopes or wallets accompanying the Form.
  • At least two standard passport sized coloured photographs are required with the forms.
     
  • Students’ address, details where student can be reached in the college must also be provided. This is to ensure that donors who may choose to communicate with the student via college can do so.
  • In cases where the mother is absent (but still alive), details must be given.
  • The student must not be already sponsored by any other organisation.
Criteria for students (actual and potential) on the scheme:
  • The student comes from a destitute background
  • The student is full time studying in the college
  • The student is not belonging to a family whose monthly income exceeded PKR 10000.
  • The student must not already be sponsored by any other organisation
  • The student must be without social support (from family and others)

MAINTENANCE OF THE SCHEME

When the individual sponsored no longer qualifies for funding, sponsorship stops and the case is “deactivated” (removed from the sponsorship scheme).
Reasons for deactivation of a student could be:
  • The student no longer attends the college.
  • The student has completed his/her higher secondary education.
  • The student has left the area and cannot be reached.
  • The student’s family knowingly provided false information in order to receive sponsorship.
  • The student only lives with his/her other relatives, due to the parental separation.
  • The student misbehaves and does not show the desire to progress in education.
  • The student passes away.

FUNDING

What follows is a breakdown of the funds administered (on a monthly basis).
  • Tuition Fee
  • College Uniform
  • College Kit (books, bag, note-books and other stationeries)
  • Transportation
  • Pocket Money

Important Note

Distribution of the Scholarships is subject to availability funding. AGHE Pakistan reserves all rights to withhold/suspend the scholarships scheme.

FUTURE INITIATIVES

After reviewing recent feedback reports from the college(s), various initiatives will be phased in across the scheme. Please note that the following points are not conclusive and may be subject to further additions:
  • All inter-departmental transactions and communications will be logged. This will also ensure an audit trail.
  • Regular visits to be conducted with the sponsored students and their respective families so as to ensure processes and timelines are being followed and met.
  • Such visits will be recorded with action points and concerns being documented and acted upon.
  • Compulsory staff meetings that must be documented with action points where required.
  • Action logs will be kept, which detail all causes for concern, particularly aspects relating to media relations.
  • The AGHE Central Office will be responsible for all records being kept, i.e. register of funds handed over to sponsored students and their families.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

  • Application on the prescribed form with duly singed by the applicant and verified by the college principal.
  • Attested copy of SSC of the application
  • Monthly Income certificate of the family of the applicant
  • Two passport size colour photographs
  • Incomplete application are liable to be rejected
